The Hellenic Green Building Council – ELGBC is a non - governmental, non – profit organization, open to everyone coming from the construction and building industry, and are interested in adopting or promoting the principles of sustainable building and construction in the entire range of industry, taking into account the environmental needs and social demands of Greece.
The ELGBC is among the members of the World GBC - www.wgbc.org - in the category of the prospective members.
Following the steps for development required by World GBC, aim of the ELGBC is to rise to the status of emerging members within 2012 and then reach the final status of established member.
In this effort, a communication on an international level has already started with the members of World GBC and other international organizations and in Greek level with all the stakeholders and operators of the wider construction industry, who are interested in sustainable construction and manufacturing.
Aim of ELGBC is to promote modern beliefs, methods and technical knowhow of harmonized sustainable building and total of the construction, in design, construct and operation of buildings and other constructions.
Vision of the ELGBC is to stay the voice and point of reference for the promoting of sustainable building and construction in the Hellenic area.
With the Expression of Interest towards the World GBC and its approval at the November 2009, ELGBC began its development efforts and integration in World GBC community.
The original core of the founders, Dr. -Ing. Niki K. Siouta, Dimitris K. Bikas Professor of Civil Engineering in ΑUTH Department, with many years of preoccupation on issues of sustainable building and construction, has been broadened with scientists and have proceed to the founding of the civil nonprofit organization, ELGBC.
